Tasting Notes

Nose

As expected, the "Luscious Nectar" smells malty-sweet, fruity, slightly honeyed perhaps and very soft. Other aromas we detect are nuts and latte, as well as green apple. Really pleasant.

Palate

Thin, delicate and oily, the whisky floats in the mouth and tingles a little on the tongue. The fruitiness is pronounced here, as well. The apple in particular stands out. Orange toffee, roasted nuts and brown sugar round off the less complex but quaffable single malt. Every now and then, the alcohol bites a little, despite the low 40% abv.

Finish

The finish is rather short and combines sweet cane sugar syrup with slightly more dominant oaky bitterness.

The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Years is a relaxed companion for summer evenings and beginners who don’t want any fuss. Its subtle sweetness and soft mouthfeel simply invite you to enjoy — an easy sipper that even perks up with a small fruit garnish. Not spectacular, but friendly and straightforward.

Sascha

Sascha 70/100

A solid Speyside whisky with balanced fruitiness and gentle maltiness, though it falls a bit short in complexity and finish length. The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Years impresses with its clear structure and pleasant balance, but remains a rather light representative of its category without much depth. Recommended for beginners seeking an accessible and harmonious whisky.

Frequently Asked Questions

What distinguishes The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Years from other single malts from Speyside?

The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Years is characterized by its mild maltiness and fruity notes, featuring green apple, orange toffee, and roasted nuts. Compared to other Speyside whiskies, it is less complex but very approachable and soft in taste.

Why does The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Years sometimes have a slight burning sensation on the tongue despite its 40% alcohol content?

Although the alcohol content is relatively low at 40%, the slight tingling or burning can come from the whisky’s thin and oily-delicate texture, which can make the alcohol seem a bit more concentrated, especially given its less complex profile.

For which market is The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Years primarily produced, and how does this differ from the other Singleton expressions?

The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Years is mainly produced for the European market. In contrast, The Singleton of Glen Ord is aimed at the Asian market, and The Singleton of Glendullan is intended for the North American market, which is also reflected in their flavor profiles and marketing.
