Aultmore 13 Years - 82 Chapters to Newcastle
In addition to the three distillery standards - 12 years, 18 years and 21 years - Aultmore from Scotland's Speyside has a number of bottlings from independent bottlers, such as the Aultmore 13 Years Red Wine Barrique from 82 Chapters to Newcastle's Creatures of Cask Strengt series.Matured for 13 years from a single red wine barrel, this single malt is striking for its intense colour. Among bottlers, both red wine casks and rum casks are considered to be the cask types with the greatest risks as far as the quality of the final result is concerned. Tasting Notes
Nose
Unexpectedly, we first perceive pear, closely followed by a combination of cherries, currants, dates and plums. The heavy aroma is accompanied by Christmas spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of clove. The composition is rounded off by a certain oak spiciness.
Palate
Whew! This is sweet. If we had expected a slightly sour base, we are surprised by a decent fruit sweetness with a combination of sugar syrup and wild berries, which, however, later turns into a sour-grapey and very mouthwatering note. The oily single malt also impresses in the mouth with Christmas spices, dates and plums. The 57.4% abv. are very well incorporated, yet the Scotch could do with a few drops of water to open up the flavours further. All in all harmonious, multi-layered and pleasant, even if surprisingly sweet.
Finish
Long and dry, the Aultmore from the red wine cask remains with wild berries, dark chocolate and an underlying oak spiciness.

The Auchroisk 2010/2023, matured for 12 years and bottled by the independent bottler Sansibar, is a single malt whisky from Speyside that demands attention. With a strong alcohol content of 60.80 % ABV, it brings a strong presence to the glass, but will not suit all tastes.

Dailuaine 2012/2022 - Malts of Scotland
You don't see Dailuaine bottlings that often. So we are all the more delighted to once again have a dram from this distillery in our glass. The single malt matured for around 10 years in a bourbon hogshead was bottled, as always unfiltered and uncoloured, in 2022 by Malts of Scotland as a Corona Edition.

Glentauchers 11 Years 2012/2024 - Signatory Vintage
The Glentauchers distillery in Speyside is one of the lesser-known but not exactly small distilleries. This is primarily because there is no visitor center, and most of the production is used in blended whiskies. Besides its own core range bottling, there are occasionally independently bottled Glentauchers malts. Today, we sampled the 11-years from the 100 Proof series by Signatory Vintage. The latter is very popular with us, and we were looking forward to this dram.
