Knockando 12 Years

Knockando 12 Years

Knockando 12 is considered the classic entry-level single malt, representative of Speyside, with a fruity, nutty flavour profile. As part of the Classic Malts Selection , it becomes even more interesting when viewed in the context of the full lineup. Knockando mainly produces malts for blends. Nevertheless there are some own bottlings which are traded under the name of the distillery Knockando (Gaelic for: Little Black Hill).

Tasting Notes

Nose

As we would expect from a Speysider: nutty and fruity. We think of apple, pear and honey. A floral scent rounds off the bright, light fragrance.

Palate

Tastes like cinema. A very cereal aroma inevitably makes us think of popcorn and canned corn. Some vanilla and oak sneak up behind. This scotch is very delicate.

Finish

In the medium-long finish, the single malt becomes a tad bitter, but remains nutty and malty.

Thoughts

Marcel

Marcel 65/100 - (Good)

Light and delicate like a mild summer evening, but a bit too tame for true whisky adventurers. A nice dram for beginners, scoring points with its fruity and nutty character – but those seeking more depth will likely be disappointed.

Sascha

Sascha 67/100 - (Good)

A solid Speyside malt with balanced fruitiness and subtle vanilla notes, though it lacks a distinctive character and greater complexity. For the affordable price, the Knockando 12 Year offers a decent balance but remains somewhat one-dimensional overall.
