Billy Walker, the master blender at GlenAllachie, describes the 2022 bottling as follows: "From the outset, it has been my aim to release quality whiskies at fair and accessible price points. This can be a significant challenge when you also choose to deploy an extensive and costly wood management policy, however, I believe The GlenAllachie 8-year-old fits the bill without any compromises or corner-cutting."
By the way, the GlenAllachie 8 year old follows the same recipe as the highly acclaimed GlenAllachie Cask Strength series. The casks are Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons, as well as virgin oak casks and red wine barriques.

Smell

The nose of the GlenAllachie 8 Year Old is a beautiful blend of spicy and sweet notes. Hints of cinnamon and gingerbread spices dance on the nose, while subtle nuances of burnt caramel and walnuts add a distinct depth. The sweet warmth of forest honey combines with the coniferous forest after rain.

Taste

The flavour of the single malt is just as exciting as its aroma. It is viscous and full-bodied on the tongue, with a buttery-soft texture on the palate. The flavours of caramel and cinnamon dominate, followed by a dash of sugar syrup that leaves a pleasant sweetness. An unexpected kick of eucalyptus adds a refreshing complexity.

Finish

The finish of the Scotch is of medium length and offers notes of oak and spice. A light floral note rounds off the overall picture.

Thoughts

The GlenAllachie 8 year old is a good choice for connoisseurs looking for a solid and accessible whisky. Pleasantly complex and yet not overwhelming, Billy Walker has created a great single malt here - but nobody expected anything less from him.
