Stork Club Straight Rye Whiskey
Delicate, Juicy, Oak, Vanilla2022-10-23
The Rye whiskey matures in barrels made of American and German oak, which have been burnt out to different degrees. It is advertised as the perfect Rye for cocktails - is that true?
Smell
The first impression is tangy-grainy and ethanol-like. Once the nose has become accustomed to the sharpness, spicy-woody as well as sweet caramel flavours can be perceived.
Taste
Really buttery and creamy, the Stork Club Straight Rye Whisky tastes of caramel - so dominant that hardly any other notes are perceptible. After some time in the glass, both a slightly tart flavour and a certain bitterness emerge. However, it is not possible to identify this exactly.
Finish
In the finish, very spicy and with a punch The grain pushes strongly to the foreground. Even minutes after drinking, we have the taste of rye bread on the palate.
Thoughts
The German Rye whiskey is quite unusual and certainly not to be recommended without some reservations. While the nose is rather disappointing, the finish is interesting and exciting. You can't expect a complex whiskey, but that's not the objective of the distillery, which focuses on regionality. We have tried the whiskey made from 100% rye both neat and in different cocktails and can say: Yes, both go quite well.
