Smell

This whisky exudes charm and lightness from the very first whiff. The nose first encounters a lush coconut note, reminiscent of tropical beaches. A gentle perfume flavour, accompanied by honey and cream toffee, gives the bouquet a seductive sweetness. Banana and vanilla sugar lend the whole a soft, creamy note that emphasises the inviting yet complex character of this whisky.

Taste

In the mouth, Nikka The Grain Whisky initially unfolds with an intense sweetness. The texture quickly becomes creamy and you can feel hints of coconut and almonds - almost as if you were biting into a buttery bite of nut praline. However, the flavour doesn't just remain sweet; it develops an exciting, nutty-spicy dimension with cereal and grain notes that give the whisky structure and depth.

Finish

The finish is rather short, but rich in floral notes and light wood spice flavours. It leaves a hint of almonds and coconut on the tongue, which picks up the impression of the sweet tropical fruit once again.

Thoughts

Nikka The Grain whisky is a prime example of the fine art of Japanese whisky blending. The balance of sweetness, nuttiness and floral accents makes this whisky extremely pleasing and easily accessible. Its softness and summery freshness are reminiscent of a balmy evening outdoors - a whisky that literally cries out for sunshine and a relaxed atmosphere.
