The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Year Old
Floral, Nutty, Hay Like2022-08-21
The three distilleries Dufftown, Glen Ord, and Glendullan produce whiskies under the label The Singleton. While The Singleton of Glen Ord is intended for the Asian market, The Singleton of Glendullan targets the North American market and The Singleton of Dufftown belongs to the European market.
Smell
As expected, the "Luscious Nectar" smells malty-sweet, fruity, slightly honeyed perhaps and very soft. Other aromas we detect are nuts and latte, as well as green apple. Really pleasant.
Taste
Thin, delicate and oily, the whisky floats in the mouth and tingles a little on the tongue. The fruitiness is pronounced here, as well. The apple in particular stands out. Orange toffee, roasted nuts and brown sugar round off the less complex but quaffable single malt. Every now and then, the alcohol bites a little, despite the low 40% abv.
Finish
The finish is rather short and combines sweet cane sugar syrup with slightly more dominant oaky bitterness.
Thoughts
The nose is very unobtrusive, pleasantly sweet and fresh with a taste which is velvety soft, almost sweet.
The Singleton Of Dufftown 12 Years is a great starter whisky, perfect for the summer and exactly what you would call an easy sipper. The Scotch has little that disturbs, but also nothing that stands out.
Crazy idea: A small piece of fruit (apple or raspberry) in the glass fits wonderfully and enhances the drink a little. Just give it a try.
