Talisker Port Ruighe

Spicy, Maritime, Costal
2022-09-28
Talisker Port Ruighe was named after the port in the small harbour town of Portree (Gaelic: Port Righ), which was very important for trade with the island.
Traditionally, the Talisker distillery matures whisky in port wine casks, which have been imported from Portugal via the "Port of the King" since the 19th century. Port wine was also traded through this port. The Talisker Port Ruighe is meant to bring back a piece from the past.

Smell

Hello Talisker - the Singla Malt opens with the unmistakable fruity, spicy and maritime-smoky notes of a Talisker. We think of warm custard, dark fruits and plums by the campfire. A little more hearty, notes of smoked bacon and oak lie in the background. Simply a Talisker.

Taste

The taste is probably best described as red wine barrels on a pirate ship. Very spicy-sweet and full-bodied, we taste red fruits, sweet smoke, as well as caramel and a slightly peppery spiciness. Further back, we perceive strong woody aromas and some dry bread.

Finish

Baking cocoa, a voluminous smoke, woody flavours and the typical Talisker chilli kick form the long-lasting finish.

Thoughts

Awesome. In contrast to the Talisker 10, Talisker goes one better here. The Port Ruighe rounds off the familiar Talisker experience with wonderful dark aromas from the port wine cask. All in all, very harmonic and balanced.
