Talisker 10 Year Old
Spicy, Maritime, Costal2022-09-04
On the bottle in the new design, the Isle of Skye off the west coast of Scotland can be found in overdramatic images. The look runs like a red leitmotif through the other bottlings of the distillery, such as the magnificent Talisker 18.
Smell
What do you expect with the rugged coastline of the Isle of Sky? Exactly - salt, seawater, rough seas. The sea air is accompanied by light cold smoke and iodine. Pleasant citrus aromas and an underlying fruitiness - we're thinking pear - round off the profile of this classic.
Taste
"It's kind of everything," says Marcel. There is no lack of different impressions in the taste. There are malty-sweet and vanilla aromas, as well as salty and peppery-sharp moments. We also recognise the pear from the nose. Leathery hints and accompanying peat smoke are also present.
Finish
Spicy, peppery and with a tart saltiness, the 10-year-old Scotch does not burn unpleasantly on the palate. We think here of the fiery burn of a chilli.
Thoughts
The Talisker distillery has created a wonderful classic with its 10-year-old bottling. There is actually not much to say. Offered at under 30 euros, it's almost ridiculously cheap when you consider what other distilleries charge for their - pardon the pun - plonk. It belongs in every home bar.
Rating: 82/100 - Excellent (Marcel: 83 | Sascha: 81)
Value for Money: 5/5 - Very Good
