Delicate, Juicy, Oak, Vanilla
2024-04-17
The fired oak in the Glen Moray Fired Oak 10 year old represents a maturation in heavily burnt barrels made from fresh American white oak. The single malt matured for 10 years in ex-bourbon casks before being given a 10-month finish in the fired oak casks.

Smell

The first impression is sweet and inviting, like a hint of candy floss. A scent of sun-ripened orange followed by a gentle embrace of vanilla and caramel spreads. A drop of coffee rounds off the flavour profile, subtle yet remarkable.

Taste

The Glen Moray reveals a powerful presence of ethanol, which quickly gives way to a rich sweet flavour. Flavours such as juicy banana chips and a pleasant malt tone take over. An oaky spiciness unfolds in the mouth, accompanied by a silky, buttery mouthfeel.

Finish

The finish is of medium length, a delicate note of liquorice chocolate remains.

Thoughts

The bourbon-esque flavour of the Glen Moray Fired Oak 10 year old gives it an exciting personality that appeals to us even more than its older brother, the Glen Moray 15. Well-formed and with sufficient variety, the Scotch is really good for its price.

Rating: 76/100 - Very Good (Marcel: 75 | Sascha: 77)
