Smell

A tantalising mix of honey, flowers and fresh grass rises from the glass. There is also an extra portion of tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and strawberries, accompanied by a hint of citrus acidity.

Taste

On the palate, the Fettercairn reveals a lively interplay of spicy ginger, refreshing lemongrass and a hint of white pepper that tingles on the tongue and leaves a pleasant tingling sensation. The malty sweetness is complemented by the appearance of juicy sultanas, while a slightly oily texture gives the mouthfeel a pleasant fullness without being too dry.

Finish

Although the finish is rather short and weak, it offers a subtle blend of gentle oak and subtle spice that harmonises with a hint of dark chocolate.

Thoughts

The Fettercairn Warehouse 2 Batch 003 presents itself overall as a solid single malt with a balanced variety of flavours. While it may not offer the most breathtaking flavours, it scores with its harmonious balance and pleasant drinking pleasure. It is reminiscent of a cosy evening with a warm ginger tea, sweetened with a hint of honey.
