Beauchamp Whisky Pur Malt
Mellow, Sweet Fruity2024-09-01
Smell
The dominant flavour here is an intense orange note that really explodes. The sweetness of caramel and brown sugar harmonises perfectly with a hint of honey. But it's not just the sweetness that stands out - a slight bitterness and an underlying malty sweetness give the fragrance depth. Also surprising is a subtle pear note, reminiscent of the distillery's characteristics, as well as a hint of white wine, which blends delicately into the overall flavour.
Taste
The first taste impression confirms the promise of the nose: sweetness is the central element. Sweets, sugar and once again the omnipresent orange dominate the flavour. It is interesting how a light grape note, reminiscent of white wine, blends into the sweet flavours. You could almost believe that the whisky is unnaturally sweet - that's how intense this flavour experience is.
Finish
The whisky remains true to its line in the finish. The orange peel is even more prominent here and is accompanied by a slight bitterness. The pear note also reappears and is complemented by a subtle oak note. Overall, the finish is harmonious, but here too it is clear that the whisky could still do with some ageing.
Thoughts
It almost feels as if there was still a decent amount left in the cask, which has intensified this sweetness. Despite the obvious youth of the whisky and the unmistakable sweetness, the Beauchamp Whisky Pur Malt manages to present a balanced and interesting flavour profile. It is certainly not a whisky for every day, but it is still worth a try.
